Who can apply?

If you hold a Master's degree in physical or chemical sciences you are invited to apply. There is no specific deadline for application.
  

A Research School Board, formed by members of the initiating institutes, will decide on admittance. Selection will be based on your university records and two letters of recommendation.

Applications must include:

• A complete and signed application form (see downloads)
• Two letters of recommendation, to be sent from the referees directly to the IMPRS office.  
• Certified copies of academic certificates -> more
• Curriculum Vitae, including a portrait photo
• Brief motivation as well as a statement of future goals
• Non-native English speakers are to supply proof of English language ability (TOEFL scores or equivalent) -> more

At a later stage you may be required to submit your thesis (in English) and are invited to Mainz for an interview with members of the School Board. Traveling costs will be reimbursed by the IMPRS.

On admission you will have to enroll at the university which best fits your research goals. The IMPRS Office supports all administrative matters. However, please note that the MPI or IMPRS cannot grant the title of a PhD. Therefore, the requirements of the university to be admitted as candidate for graduation have to be fulfilled. This is typically a master degree.
