History of cars

The wheel has been invented thousands of years ago and the Romans where already traveling in coaches through Europe and fighting in chariots. But since when are our towns and villages so much dominated by the traffic of motor driven cars? A view back into history ...

Oil consumption

Oil consumption is strongly related to transportation. The distillation process has been invented in 1853, a few decades after trains and steam boats, a few decades before the first car drove end of the 19th century. We have a look back how oil consumption developed and we will see what the share of transport is and might be in the future.

Velocity and air drag

Driving a car means to use energy for moving a mass over a certain distance. Since the car has contact with ground and air it means also to overcome certain resistances. We give an overview of the essential physical factors.
