About Quantify

The emission of greenhouse gases and the resulting warming of our planet is regarded as one of the most prominent problems of this century. The transport sector is the only major sector in which no reduction of the emissions has been achieved, although the performance of engines has been improved. People aim at higher mobility and the transport of goods increases. Consequently, the production of transportation means as cars, ships or aircrafts is an important branch in our industries.

The main goal of QUANTIFY as a research project is to quantify the climate impact of global and European transport systems for the present day and for several scenarios of future development. Using significantly improved transport emission inventories and better evaluated and hence more reliable models, new forecasts in QUANTIFY will represent a considerable improvement of current predictions.

The transport sector is strongly influenced by our all personal behaviour. We decide if we go by bus, by train or with a car. We decide if we spend our holidays at home, in the own country or fly with an airplane to a place thousands of miles away. We decide if we buy a car and which sort of car.
The goal of QUANTIFY education is to improve our understanding of the relevance of transport in general for our climate system but also of the relevance of our own decisions. We explain the development, status quo and potential future in transportation and demonstrate how different technologies and trends affect our climate system. We briefly discuss potential political measures but also what our individual options are to contribute to lower emissions in the transport sector or to increase them.
