Welcome to the kinetics and photochemistry group
An accurate description and reliable prognosis of the composition of the atmsophere, and the response thereof to changes in the rates and nature of pollutant input can only be achieved if atmospheric models are equipped with accurate descriptions of the chemical interactions that regulate the abundance of key species such as e.g. O3. Parameterisation of the chemical interactions in models are, almost without exception, taken from laboratory experiments, or are based on semi-empirical expressions derived from laboratory observations. The work of the laboratory based kinetics and photochemistry research group is directed towards a detailed understanding of gas-phase and heterogeneous processes that take place throughout the atmosphere.
